The sister's main charism is looking after the elderly. In 1975 Grace Old Age Home was established to care the elderly who are neglected by the family and society. Along with old age comes many health problems, prompted by the need to meet the medical needs of the elderly, a small clinic was established with two beds in a small building in 1977. In those days there were no medical facilities for the people in the town of Tiruvannamalai and in nearby villages. People flocked to this tiny hut seeking the medical treatment for various illnesses. Understanding the health need of the local people 10 bedded clinic was built which expanded into a 50-beded hospital catering the various health needs of the local people.
The Hospital is administered by Sisters of Our Lady of Grace and Compassion Benedictines. The main work of the Congregation is hospitality particularly in the care of the old, the sick and the poor. The main objective of the hospital is love and service. We demonstrate this by providing exemplary physical, emotional and spiritual care for each of our patients and their families.
The Grace and Compassion hospital seeks to be witness of Christ through providing quality health care services to the sick and needy.
The primary concern of the Grace and Compassion Hospital is to cater the medical needs for the poor and the destitute people of Tiruvannamalai and its surrounding villages.To offer ethical and quality patient care to disadvantaged, marginalized and needy of the society irrespective of religion, caste, language and community.

Tiruvannamali, a temple town of South India, is surrounded by hills and villages. Around 79 % of the population is in rural areas where the medical facility is not within the reach of the people. A free medical camp is conducted by the hospital every month in various villages to meet the health need of the sick who are unable to travel to the town to get treatment.
A team of staff consisting of medical practioners, nurses, pharmacists, lab technician etc visits the village to provide free health check up, consultations and medication to prevent the various diseases and health education is given to promote the health of the people. More than 300 people benefit every month from this reach out program.
Over the years it was observed that diabetic patients are suffering with various complications of the disease which could be easily controlled and prevented with proper medications and treatment. It came to the knowledge of the sisters that many patients don't have adequate money to purchase the medications. So every Tuesdays diabetic clinic is conducted in the hospital to meet the growing need of the diabetic patients where free medication is given for a week and health education is given to create awareness of the disease, treatment modalities and to prevent various complications more than 200 patients benefit from this every week.
Many patients who come to our hospital openly expressed that they are able to get quality treatment with affordable cost in our hospital only in Tiruvannamali as many private hospitals charge way high towards the patients. Large number of people who are not economically well off are benefiting from our hospital who otherwise have to spent large amount of their earning to meet various health expenses.
